Here are a few things you need to know about a dental device (mandibular advancement splint) for snoring and sleep apnoea

  1. The device is made of two parts. One for the top jaw and one for the bottom jaw
  2. The purpose of the device is to bring your jaw slightly forward such that it keeps your airpipe at the back of the tongue open.
  3. It takes a month to get used to the device.
  4. There will be review appointments (for upto 6 months) to make sure the device is comfortable and doing the work it needs to do to improve your sleep apnoea and snoring. The device is adjustable so it will be adjusted as needed. There will be no cost associated with these appointments
  5. There is a possibility that the bite will change. If that happens, we shall be giving you a special morning device that will help to realign your jaw back to normal that needs to be worn for 5 to 10 mins. The morning device can also be used as a preventive measure for the bite change
  6. There are 2 appointments required to make the device. One to take digital impressions of your teeth and the other to give you the device, show you how to use it, look after it and deal with side effects if any.
  7. The total cost of the device is 2800.00. (this includes the scan/impression for your teeth, the fitting of the device and all the follow-up visits for up to 6 months)
  8. You need to change the device (get a new device) every 3 years preferably.

The mouth device is custom made and fully adjustable. There will be review appointments (for upto 6 months) to make sure the device is comfortable and doing the work it needs to do to improve your sleep apnoea and snoring.

The device is adjustable so it will be adjusted as needed. There is no cost associated with these appointments.

There is a small possibility that the bite will change. The variation of the cost is based on the type of device used, effectiveness of the device and the relative side effects of the device.

It is worth spending good money on not just the device, but the aftercare that is required to make sure the mouth device works and the ability of the doctor to deal with the effectiveness of the device and any side effects that can potentially develop.

Like any appliances, support is essential, and issues will happen that need to be maintained. At Snoring Solutions Clinics there are no further charges to any adjustments, replacements if fractures or issues over 3 years for the device. All review appointments are also inclusive of the treatment to cure snoring.
